It has been two years since last time, but at last, this year I am attending GoOpen 2010! Table of Contents I will try to get a hold of these keynotes: His role is to drive increased awareness of Amazon's cloud computing offerings in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, grow the customer and revenue base, and oversee all public facing activities including business development, sales, marketing, evangelism, and support. Martin joined Amazon Web Services in January 2006 to drive awareness and adoption of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Before joining Amazon Web Services, Martin served business development and strategy functions within the Windows Networking and Connected Devices group at Microsoft. Prior to that, Martin was Vice President of Business Development for Neomar, a Silicon Valley startup backed by Research in Motion, which securely extended enterprise applications to mobile devices. The government in Norway produce plenty of digital information that isn't made available for everyone. Privacy/data security and the national safety could be reasons not to publish everything, but there's a whole lot of useful public information retained with no reason. Why is it like this and how can we change this? Per Einar Dybvik from Aspiro Music and Martin Stangeland from Conduct AS presents how the Pentaho Open Source BI solution has been utilized and how they implemented it. I really going to enjoy this one, not just because she is presenting a keynote on how they've used OSGeo, but because the keynote speaker is my cousin (first cousin once removed)! Open Source Software is expected to bring financial benefits, as well as process improvements, to Government agencies to enable more integrated and improved public services for Malaysia, its citizens and enterprises. Malaysia is one of the early pioneers to have a Government-wide OSS Master Plan, executed concertedly and relentlessly under the leadership and coordination of Open Source Competency Centre MAMPU. As an early adopter of OSS, in the last six years Malaysia's Public Sector has made significant inroads in changing mindsets and beliefs, and proliferating open source projects, products and services throughout its agencies and the private sector. This presentation shares that journey, exploring the challenges, achievements and lessons learnt along the way. Should the public sector buy proprietary software or seek open source systems and what are the best strategies for system development in this sector ? This paper considers why an interdisciplinary approach is appropriate for exploring these questions? Sandro D'Elia is a project officer in the European Commission, where he works in the “Information Society†directorate-general on research in the area of software and services. Sandro will introduce Open Source strategy in the European research work programme, discussing opportunities for funding and participation in research activities. Walter Bender is technologist and researcher who has made important contributions in the field of electronic publishing, media, and technology for learning. Bender is on leave as a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab which he led as executive director between 2000 and 2006. More recently, Bender served as president of One Laptop per Child for Software and Content where he coordinated the development of software and content including the Sugar interface for the XO-1 Children's Machine computer. Walter Bender will speak about Sugar, the Free Software that we developed for the OLPC project and how the OLPC prosject can help people in 3 world. The internet changed everything. As Thomas Friedman explain in his book «The World is Flat», the transaction-cost free communication of the internet creates a wealth of possibilities to create, maintain and foster on open society. Open Source and Free Software were merely the start. With Open Data, Open Knowledge, Social Networks and global communities the principles of Open Source have grown into a lot of fields. Jan Wildeboer will show what has happened, what can be hoped for and what risks we see on our way. Read the full program here.
