On this day, one of the most powerful women in the world died of cancer 54 years ago. María Eva Duarte de Perón, or Evita, was the 2nd wife of the Argentine President Juan Domingo Perón.

Evita has been a symbol for hope in over 50 years, and in the poorer districs of Buenos Aires, you will see the slogan "Evita Vive - Evita lives"
